CHANGES TO DEFAULT GEOMETRIC STIFFNESS MODEL IN BLADED

Recent studies have shown that, in some cases, the default modelling settings in Bladed were not giving accurate results.

Bladed’s geometric stiffness model gives a first order non-linear enhancement of the blade dynamic response. In Bladed 4.5-4.7, the effect of element shear forces was included in the geometric stiffness calculation. However, studies have since shown that, for many blade designs, the geometric stiffness shear forces has a detrimental effect on simulation accuracy and stability. Therefore the geometric stiffness model default setting has been changed from “full” to “axial only” in Bladed 4.5-4.7.

UPCOMING EVENTS

European Bladed user conference 2016
Following the success of past events, the third annual European Bladed user conference will take place on 10 November 2016 in Hamburg, Germany. It provides a unique opportunity to present your recent work using Bladed, meet the software developers to discuss your needs and shape the future of Bladed, and engage with your peers within the wind turbine design industry.

Click here for more information about presenting or registering.

Complete structural analysis for offshore wind seminars
Are you a Bladed user looking for an integrated solution for offshore wind turbine support structure design? We have been developing links between Bladed and Sesam, DNV GL’s offshore structural analysis software tool, to enable an efficient and optimised workflow for offshore wind turbine loads analysis and support structure design.

To learn more, join one of the one-day seminars this autumn in LondonHamburg and Beijing (to be confirmed).
